Malpractice may arise from a professional's misconduct or failure to use adequate levels of care, skill or diligence in the performance of the professional's duties that causes harm to another.

 

Public Liability?

 

You run a massage business. A customer comes in to your clinic to book a massage, but trips up on a loose bit of flooring in your clinic. Public liability insurance would cover your business if the customer claimed for injuries sustained as a result of the un-maintained floor.

 

Products Liability?

If you supply a faulty product, claimants may try to claim from you first, even if you did not manufacture it.

 

What is the Occluded vertebral artery test?

An occluded (to become closed; obstruct) vertebral artery does not deliver enough blood to the brain and is therefore a dangerous situation.

To perform a vertebral artery test, ask the client to extend his or her head. Watch the eyes for 15 seconds and note if one or both pupils dilate. Ask a couple of easy questions (their name and where they are). Look for any signs of confusion or disorientation. If there are any of these signs, they may have an occluded vertebral artery. Do not perform any neck work and refer the client to their GP.

 

What is the difference between the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous System.

Sympathetic stimulates (except for Lung) and Parasympathetic relaxes .

 

Name the different types of massage techniques.

Effleurage

Allows massage oil to be applied evenly across the client. Helps the client relax. Warms the skin, improves circulation to prepare for deeper massage.

 

Petrissage

Stretches the muscles, which makes them more elastic and supple removing tension.

 

Stripping

Irons the muscles, eliminating knots, lumps and bumps.

 

Friction

Heats up the area being worked, improving circulation, promoting lymph drainage, stimulating nerves and loosening muscles (ideal for tension and stiffness).

 

Cat Pawing

Excellent for larger muscles where the heat can penetrate as deeply as possible.

 

Rocking

Breaks down tight, knotted muscles.

 

Vibration

Vibration can be used on deeper muscle groups to break down tight, knotted muscles.

 

Tucking

This provides specific treatment to areas not currently being worked on. If.

Infra Orbital Foramen - Located at either side of the nose, feeds sinus cavities, upper teeth and lower eyes.
Supra Orbital Foramen - Located on the eyebrow, feeds the top of the eye, scalp and sinus cavities.

Facial Nerve - Branches from in front of the ear, feeds the muscle around the mouth, side of nose and ear.
