"Life's battles do not always go to the stronger or faster man. But sooner or later the man who wins is the man who thinks he can"

"There’s always a bigger weight!”

Through out my childhood I have always been called “the skinny one” or “daddy long legs”. Being quite tall, I always found it difficult to put one weight. From the age of around 16 I decided to do something about it. I joined the gym because I wanted to put a bit of muscle on for confidence and also to help with my martial arts training which I did on a regular basis. I started off at a gym which was connected to my school at the time. At that point I was quite inexperienced and wasn’t quite sure what I was doing. However through time and with help of the personal trainers at the gym I started to learn routine work outs for each muscle groups. Then as I got older I changed gyms due to convenience of it being connected to the university I had just joined.
Since I have been going to the gym I have became much more confident with my body. I have gained around 3 stone in the past two years by eating a balanced diet and regularly going to the gym. I have definitely seen an improvement in the mass, density and form of all my main muscle groups which I work on, on a regular basis.
I enjoy the gym because it is a good escape from life. Everyone has stress in life; it’s just a common factor which some people endure more than others. Personally for me, I can go to the gym for an hour or so and just forget about all my troubles and make myself feel better. The good thing about gyms is that they supply equipment for any type of training which you wish to do. If you want to loose weight then you can go to the gym and use the cardio equipment such as treadmills, rowing machines, step machines, bike machines. Another aspect of gyms which I find useful is the staff which most good gyms hire. Most gyms have personal trainers so you can ask them for advice on nutrition, the right exercise for what you want to personally achieve and how to use certain equipment to get the full potential out of your work out and also to use it safely.

Rock Climbing Hits the Peak

As well as doing Kung Fu I like to spend my spare time rockclimbing. Rockclimbing is an intense sport and requires concentration, fitness and balance. In many ways it helps me with Kung Fu, with upper and lower body strength, balance and also just like Kung Fu it gives a big adrenalin rush. I have been rockclimbing for approximately two years and if I am not doing martial art training, you will find me in Hull Rock City. I also enjoy the social side of rock climbing, friends and family like to come along and give it a try, this is encouraging for both me and whole group at Rock City.

Zumba is effective! After just a couple of Zumba classes you'll already feel that Zumba has had an effect on your stamina. Because whichever way you look at it: it is and remains a workout. One of Zumba's great strengths is that your whole body is exercised: your legs are constantly moving thanks to the basic steps. Your arms join in once you know the exercises which means the rest of your body follows.
Zumba means building stamina and losing weight! Burning fat and building muscle is the way to losing weight and toning the body for a lot of people.
The big advantage of Zumba is that your muscles won't ache as much or at all after exercising because you can follow your own tempo.
